What to Bring to Your Notary Exam
📝 Your Notary Public Application
You MUST Complete and Sign Your Notary Public Application (Form SOS/NP-30) and physically have it with you at the Exam Site.
📜 An Official Proof of Completion
Present your Certificate from a California Secretary of State Approved Notary Public Education Provider to your Proctor (the Notary Exam Invigilator) upon arrival.
🪪 A Valid Photo ID
Have a California Driver’s License or Passport, or any unexpired Government Issued Photo ID.
💵 Notary Exam Fee
Provide a $40 (prospective & renewing notary candidates) or $20 (failed exam retake) check or money order payable to the Secretary of State, as they won’t accept cash or credit/debit card.
👤 A Passport Photo
Attach one 2×2 color photo to your Notary Application.
✏️ No. 2 Pencils
Candidates must bring one or two standard No. 2 pencils. These are required to accurately complete the Scantron bubble sheet for your multiple-choice exam.
