Step 1: Take an Approved Notary Public Class

Step 2: Pass the State Exam at a Local CPS HR Site

After completing your course, you must pass the official proctored exam. CPS HR Consulting frequently hosts testing centers across LA County, including:

Step 3: Clear Your Live Scan Background Check

You must submit fingerprints to the DOJ and FBI. You can easily find authorized Live Scan vendors in almost every neighborhood in Los Angeles to quickly process your background check.

Step 4: File Your Oath & Bond with the LA County Clerk

Once your commission packet arrives in the mail, you have a strict 30-day deadline to file your oath and $15,000 surety bond. In Los Angeles County, this is handled by the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerks Ofiice.
