Step 1: Take an Approved Notary Public Class

Before registering for the state exam, you must complete a Mandatory 6-Hour Notary Public Training Course. Skip the traffic on the 5 Freeway, our Online Notary Public Classes are fully approved for all San Diego County Residents and can be completed from your computer or mobile device.

Step 2: Pass the State Exam in San Diego

After securing your Proof of Completion, you must pass the Official Proctored Exam. CPS HR Consulting frequently hosts testing centers right here in the county, including:

• San Diego / Mission Valley: DoubleTree Hotel – 7450 Hazard Center Drive
• Carlsbad / Oceanside: Holiday Inn Express – 751 Raintree Drive

Step 3: Clear Your Live Scan Background Check

You are required to submit your fingerprints to the DOJ and FBI. You can easily locate authorized Live Scan vendors throughout San Diego County to process your background check quickly.

Step 4: File Your Oath & Bond with the SD County Clerk

Once your official commission packet arrives, you have a strict 30-day deadline to file your oath of office and $15,000 surety bond. In San Diego County, this is managed by the Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk.
